The Captain’s Rig - Not too long ago I was approached by a good friend of mine who is a Captain on a charter boat. He asked me to make him leaders that were stronger than the leaders that he was buying at the local chain store. So, I made him these and The Captain's Rig was born.
These leaders are great for deep dropping off a boat for Red Snapper but also work well with surf fishing. In both cases you put the weight on the long leader line and put your bait on the short leader line. This should keep your bait slightly off the bottom. Also, with the weight on the bottom it will be easier to cast when surf fishing. The heavy duty Coast Lock Snaps allow you to add whatever hook you prefer and be able to replace it when the hook gets rusty. I use these when I'm surf fishing all the time and really like them. I find they work best when the big fish are being finicky and aren't biting my bigger hooks. I will use these with a 9/0 hook and tear up those big reds.
This leader is good for freshwater or saltwater and is ideal for catching redfish, black drum, red snapper, whiting, croaker, striper, catfish, gar, small sharks and just about anything else.
