Description

One of the collection of New Mexico matriarch Lillian Yrisarri de Livingston - great granddaughter of the first governor of New Mexico in 1822. She collected her bells from 1943 to her death in 1957. For the past 50+ years, her bells sat undisturbed and forgotten in storage. She kept an accurate ledger detailing each of the bells. Many of the bells have been lost to the elements and some have completely disappeared. Her journal describes this bell as follows: Javanese bell with wooden clapper. In front of bell in a black square SSS 593 JAVA. There is one similar in the Hearst museum in Berkeley. I acquired this one from a family member who lived in Arizona and found it in an antique shop. It has a lovely mellow tone. This bell weighs 1 lb. 4 oz. and measures 6.5" x 4.5" x 2.5".
